Day 1

Everyone begins somewhere…right…well I don’t really know where I began; not really. But I know I’ve ended up here…blogging…with lots of others. I blog because I’m mostly alone, on my own, with my 3 boys, who are 8,9 and 11. I also have two dogs. They look like little teddy-bears rather than dogs.  We all live in a little unit that’s mine, I’m paying off –  This is not one of those hardship story blogs, nor is it a happy story blog. It’s just life!

And its small. My life, with my boys, and my two dogs. Not insignificant, not meaningless, just small. Tomorrow, is a busy day, the boys are having a friend over for a sleepover. This friend, of my boys, is an eleven-year-old boy scout. The best thing of all, the boy scout, who I shall call, Jim, gets along with all three of my boys. That is rare.  Jim is my gold nugget of play-dates. He is just a, really, nice human being. Best of all my children are friends with him.

I should introduce my boys: John, Wayne, and Duke. Okay, it’s not their real names. If they new I was writing a blog, they would ban me from google, forever. And that is no exaggeration. They have that kinda power over me; especially, if all three of them are in agreement.

The eleven-year-old scout, Jim, is a mostly vegan, and sometimes a vegetarian eating child. This is great, as it is the only time, I’ve seen a child eat my cooking. I have made this wonderful vegan strew: mix beans, sweat potatoes, carrot, potatoes, turmeric, garlic, basil, 440g of can tomato, and the secret ingredient, Canadian Marple-syrup. I put it all in the slow cooker for 5-6 hours; and that, amazing, syrup, dangles itself all over the ingredients as if they had always belonged together. Not over powering, a delicate balance, sweet and tender. I’m not a fan of mix beans, but, what, that Canadian Marple-syrup does to those beans is…well…it makes…not just eatable…but enjoyable. It is what Chanel perfume does for a middle-age woman having hot-flashes. It hides it all – in the smell, taste, and texture. I swear, it’s true.

I have nobody to share this with but you…its a small thing I share…but I’m glad I share it with you, my friends. See, I’m alone, but not lonely.
